Services

Bart Squires can improve your manuscript in different ways. He can polish lightly, or he can go deep. Here is a description of each service:

Proofreading

Proofreading involves looking for conspicuous errors such as missing words, repeated words, typos, and incorrect punctuation marks. Proofreading is the final polishing of a finished manuscript. Bart will read through your manuscript twice, looking intently for any lingering errors.

Copyediting

Copyediting occurs before proofreading. It is a much deeper polishing than proofreading and ensures a work adheres to a certain style, such as The Chicago Manual of Style or The Associated Press Stylebook. Word by word, sentence by sentence, Bart will read your manuscript slowly. He will read it three times. Grammar, syntax, and diction shall be analyzed. If a sentence is wordy or awkward, he will offer suggestions to make it concise and clear. All aspects of the work are corrected: punctuation, hyphenation, capitalization, spelling, italics, numbers, abbreviations, and so on.

Fact-Checking

Fact-checking involves verifying all factual details to ensure factual correctness of the work. Examples include checking dates, math, the spelling of names, and the wording of quotations.

Bart uses The Chicago Manual of Style, unless you prefer another style guide. And via Track Changes in Word, you will see all edits made. As the author, you can then approve or reject any changes to your manuscript. Bart charges $34 per hour for his services.
